Eigo Core Program

In their freshman year, students complete the four Eigo Core courses: 英語IA/B in the spring, and 英語IIA/B in the autumn. These courses total 4 lessons per week of intensive English study designed specifically for students' first year at J. F. Oberlin. In these courses, the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) are learnt and practiced through a program of themes and tasks. These courses provide students with a foundation in the English language suitable for communication in an increasingly interconnected international community. The placement procedure in April determines students English language proficiency and the level at which they will begin to study. Lessons are designed to be interactive, and students are encouraged to be active and independent learners. Learning activities are designed to be communicative and learning focused, and are presented and assessed in accordance with students' needs.
