This activity encourages students to learn/use the words they have written down in their vocabulary notebooks.
This is a modified version of something that a colleague, Dexter Da Silva, previously passed onto me and it can be adapted to suit any level and can be carried out as often as you wish.
The materials include the interview sheet and some instructions for the teacher.

Hi Damian,
I was really looking for a way to make better use of the vocabulary book and this looks like it will get the students more involved in their own learning processes. Thanks for the great idea!

Alison,
thanks let me know how it goes with your students.
Spot on. It’s going to improve the vocabulary element of the students’ studies. I’ll definitely be using it.

cheers, let us know how it goes with the students.
When students get used to the idea of the exercise, rather than writing three words, I put a selection on the board from which the students can choose. When the students see that not everyone chooses the same words it reinforces the idea that the words they write in their vocabulary notebooks should be important/interesting/useful to them and not just come from the teacher.
