There seem to be a lot of people who, like me, are teaching discussion and debate extensions classes. Since I’ve not heard of anyone using a textbook, there’s a good chance to improve our courses by sharing materials. I’m going to gradually add my “Discussing Current Issues” materials to this posting. When it’s unclear how to use them, I’ll add some teachers’ notes.

A good way to get students to start using the exponents is to cut the list up into strips and put them in a pile in the middle of the table. Student then have to quickly grab one during a discussion before they can use the exponent. Points awarded for every exponent used…. It’s chaos at first, but it is one way of making a long list of exponents accessible to the students.
sounds like a great idea, I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the comment.
