Just testing ecto

Just testing a little application called ecto.

Ecto lets you write a message without having to log in to the materials site. It seems to work well, but it costs about ¥2000.

I am just going to try a video file in quicktime .mov format…

It’s a ‘poster movie’. That means you have to click on the picture to make it play. (hmm, autoplay not working)

Testing file upload:
Test file.doc

FlashPaper to open in new window: virtualmomo-3.swf

FlashPaper in the page: oh… Firefox doesn’t like the embeded swf file.

Large thumbnail used to preview pdf file. Clicking on image should download the pdf.

Virtualmomo-2

I just noticed it doesn’t support the keyword system being used here, but this might explain how to make it work: http://www.splyb.com/madfox/?p=48

Hi Richard,

Let’s see… Ecto is a great app. People should use it if they wish. I can do the Tag set-up. I’d rather leave Ecto as a choice, but not try to set people up with it. One more application will just bother some people and reduces the portability—you have to know how to use the basic web front end because you might not always be at a machine with Ecto installed.

BTW, did you buy Ecto? ;-)

I can get into it later, but Autoplay should NOT be used. Tehre are several reasons, but the most important is that search results will turn up multiple entries all on one page—too many movies and flash animations all at once.

The pdf thumb looks great and that should work well. We just have to remind people that is in addition to text, not a substitute for text. No text in the entry means nothing to search.
