A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
This task requires students to write a 4 paragraph ‘recount’ of an experience they have had of going to the movies.
About the Task
A recount retells events. Examples of recounts include diary entries, newspapers, excursion reports, writing to your friend about your holiday, etc. They may include a number of forms including diary entries and letters. The purpose of a recount is to inform or entertain.
A recount tells:
• what happened
• when it happened
• where it happened
• who was involved
• how it happened
Language features
These may include:
• past tense
• descriptive words
• words to show the order of events (time sequence words) first, then, next, after.
• proper nouns
• the first person pronoun might be used
• technical language might be used
