Eco-points are given to you when you buy an economical electrical appliance. The points are added to a special point card. You can exchange the points for some free gifts. It’s kind of gift certificate. Or you can get a coupon to exchange for goods
Nowadays, environmental problems are more and more seriously. Therefore, Japanese goverment suggest this idea to Japanese people. This idea is good for world and also electric appliances shops, because if many Japanese people buy such as things, It’s helpful things for environment and electric appliances shops.
For example, if you buy a 32inch TV, you can get 12,000 eco-point, and also if you returned your old TV to electric appliances shops and pay for the money to recycle it, you can get 3000 point more. So you can get 15,000 point. And by that point, you can change it to many good gift such as tickets for somewhere in Japan.
Most people in Japan don’t know about eco-points exactly. This is what some people in Japan said about it.
“I don’t know anything about eco-point. what’s that? can you tell me what it is?”
“I remember that when it was introduced, even workers in large electrical shop didn’t know what it is. This was because Japanese government anounced eco point because it sounded good, even they had no plan. I think eco point system must be complicated and I can’t be bothered to learn more about it, even if I am losing some money.”
